ORGAN PRELUDE
BRINGING IN THE LIGHT OF CHRIST
WELCOME AND PARISH NOTES
*CALL TO WORSHIP
One: The gatekeeper has opened the gate and our
Shepherd
has called us by name.
All: Jesus, we have heard your voice, and we
are here.
One: Jesus is the gate. Whoever enters by him will be saved.
He came that you may have life, and
have it abundantly.
All: Jesus, we are
here. Fill us with your life.

PRAYER HYMN #347
“Spirit
Song”
UNISON PRAYER
Precious Lord, hear our weak cries
and lead us in your ways. Strengthen our hearts as we feed upon the word that
comes from the one Good Shepherd. Keep our
eyes so firmly fixed upon Jesus that earthly treasures, no matter how enticing,
cannot divert our vision from your tending hand. Train our ears to distinguish your voice,
concise and clear, amid the din of conflicting desires and mounting urges that
compete for our attention. In a culture
which enshrines "self" as the one and only leader, we submit
ourselves to your shepherding love and mercy. Amen.

A Note on Brother James’ Air
Brother James is the familiar name
by which many remember James Leigh Macbeth Bain, who was born in Scotland toward
the middle of the last century and passed away in 1925. Like st. Francis,
he combined the spiritual genius of the Mystic with the irresistible charm and
trust of the child who loves all persons and creatures. This Air is perhaps the most beautiful of
many that came to him spontaneously, and it has, in its simplicity, something
of that rare quality of appeal that Maurice Baring described thus: ‘It was a
wonderful tune– a tune that opened its arms’
